Hillary Rodham Clinton (born Hillary Diane Rodham on October 26, 1947) is the junior United States Senator from New York , serving her freshman term since January 3, 2001. She is married to Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the , and was First Lady of the during his two terms from 1993 to 2001. Before that, she was a lawyer and the First Lady of Arkansas.

A sometimes controversial public figure who has been involved in debates over cultural changes, Hillary Clinton did not adopt the typical secondary role of a First Lady upon her arrival at the White House, preferring to express her views and remain directly involved in national politics. She became the first First Lady to run for public office and the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from New York .

She is running for re-election to the Senate in the November, 2006 election, and is ahead in pre-election polls. Although not announced as a candidate, she is considering running for the Democratic Party presidential nomination in 2008. Nationwide polls place her well ahead of other potential Democratic presidential candidates and most pundits, as of October 2006, consider her the frontrunner for the nomination. She is one of only five women to have been repeatedly ranked among the world's most influential people by Time magazine.
